Hi Scribblers!

Did you know today is National Macaroon Day? Macaroons are made with coconuts and are a tasty flourless cookie!

While National Macaroon Day  may not be a treasured holiday, it’s certainly a yummy one to celebrate! This year, have fun with the kids and make Macaroon Monsters!

To make these tasty treats, you will need:
3/4 cup Sugar
5 tbs Flour
4 Egg Whites
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 Bag of Sweetened Coconut (14 oz)
1 Baking Sheet
Parchment Paper
Wilton Chocolate Melts
Wilton White Chocolate Melts
Wilton Cookie Icing

 To make:

-Preheat oven to 325˚

-Line baking sheet with parchment paper

-Combine flour, sugar and coconut in a large bowl

-Mix egg whites with vanilla extract and stir in dry ingredients until well blended

- *(OPTIONAL) Take 1/3 mixture aside and mix in 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.

- * Drop 1 rounded tablespoon of plain mixture onto parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

- * Gently press a small amount of chocolate mixture onto the plain mixture to create hair (or do these last 2 steps in reverse if you prefer)

- * Add mini M&Ms for eyes and decorate with cookie icing

- Drop 1 tablespoon of mixture on to prepared baking sheet

- Bake 15-20 minutes or until edges are golden brown

- Remove immediately from baking sheet and place on a wire rack

-Decorate with icing or dip into Wilton Chocolate Melts.

- Place macaroons into the refrigerator approximately 10 minutes to allow chocolate to harden

- Plate your cookies and enjoy!

According to the dates for the change of seasons, its not quite summer yet- but it sure does feel like it! Memorial Day weekend was supposed to be a dismal rainy 3-days, but it turned out to be a wonderful weekend filled with fun in the sun! What did you do this past weekend?

There are many fun things to do on summer weekends. You can go on a family vacation, have friends and family over for a barbeque or even take a trip to the beach!

This past weekend, I headed out to the beach and I had such a blast relaxing in the sun but wow, was it crowded! Do your kids love the beach? I always love watching the kids make sandcastles and take turns burying each other- its so much fun!

If you and the kids are looking for a little down time to call off from the warm weather, entertain the kids with this summer coloring page!

Creativity is Fun!

Hi Scribblers!

Did you see our post yesterday on all the fun we had at Bayfest 2012? We were really impressed by some of the creative scribblers who sat down to use our supplies to make their creative crafts!

This scribbler joined us and made origami and a puppet!

Another scribbler made a retro necklace!

Do you like to make your own crafts? Using your imagination is fun! Simply pull out a few craft supplies: crayons, scissors, popsicle sticks, yarn- whatever you can find! Sit down with these supplies and play with them for a bit. Try layering things, twisting things, use glue, tape or string to hold it all together. When creating your own crafts, be sure to take your time and you really can’t go wrong! As long as you are giving yourself time to create, you’ll soon find that exploring your imagination can be fun!

Fun at BayFest 2012!

Hi Scribblers!

Yesterday, May 20th, we had a great time at BayFest 2012 in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. We were getting scribbley with the kids making fun water-themed arts & crafts!

We had crafters of all ages visit our table!

All the crafters really put their heart into the crafts and took time to make some great crafts! Tyree, a young man who loves to make portraits, carefully colored in his boat-themed puppets!

We even had a few crafters come up with their own crafts! Miriam drew a picture of a girl!

Miriam is a young girl who is certainly a talented artist! You can check out more of her art here.

Scribble Town will be participating in festivals throughout the summer! You can find us next at Riverdale Riverfest on June 24th!

It’s National Pack Rat day!

Hi Scribblers!

Are you a pack rat? A pack rat is someone who collects and holds on to just about everything and often times, holds on to things that are unneeded. With popular shows today such as Hoarders, this may be the first thing that comes to mind, but I can say for sure that my mother used to call me a “pack rat” when my room was just a general mess! So, since it is, after all, Spring why not set up a day for Spring Cleaning?

Remember our post last week on cleaning up your room? Take some tips from the post on how to make cleaning fun- put on your favorite music, start organizing and then take a deep breath and throw out anything you don’t really need!

But let’s be realistic, sometimes with  all the odds and ends things can just get cluttered. So, try to organize!

This box can be used to organize just about anything! Bait & tackle, needles & thread, general arts & crafts supplies, and more!

Looking for something a little more trendy?

With this craft box, you can neatly keep everything in one place!
