A Town of a Different Color!

Tucked into the northern corner of the Catskills is a village called Tannersville, sometimes referred to as the painted village.

A Painted Town

Colorful Tannersville!

The stores, restaurants and buildings along Main Street are sporting a very colorful look.  A local artist and painter, Elena Patterson conceived and carried out the town wide Paint Projectwith efforts of the Hunter Foundation and with the help of corporate sponsors and local residents. Downtown buildings were transformed into dramatic paint schemes of bright colors with decorative signs and shutters.  Some of the buildings even have cartoon pictures painted on the shutters.

Draw your favorite summer day!

Hi Scribblers,

With the little ones back in school, summer has come to an end but instead of letting the summer memories drift by, scribble them down!

Take the time to cherish your  summer memories with your family. After dinner, have everyone sit down and discuss their favorite summer memories. Were there any fun parties? Did you go on vacation? Did you go to the beach?

After your family has remembered the fun of summer, have each person – kids, mom, dad and all!- draw their favorite memory! When everyone is done, you will have a beautiful collage of your summer!

Can’t find the time to sit down and draw? That’s okay! Download this fun coloring page and as your little ones get scribbley talk about some of the highlights of summer!

Fun Pirate Facts!

Hi Scribblers!

Did you know the 1st week of July is Pirate Week?

Here are some random and fun facts about Pirates!

- The Jolly Roger flag is the proper name of the “pirate flag.” With its black background and white skull and crossbones, it was designed to be scary however, this flag was not used by all pirates. Usually it was only flown by pirates sailing in the Spanish Main.
- Pirates pierced their ears, not for stylish reasons but because they thought the earrings, particularly with precious metals such as gold and silver, increased their eyesight.
- Pirates believed that having women on board their ship was bad luck.
- Pirates would take over island ports and make them a safe haven for pirates.
- While pirates have been around since the 15th century, most pirating actually occurred between 1690-1720.
-While pirates are known for stealing, each pirate ship had it’s own Code of Conduct. On some ships, there was a strict zero-tolerance rule against stealing from one’s own shipmates. If such a treason was caught, the pirate could face the penalty of being thrown overboard or left marooned on an abandoned island!

Hope you enjoy Pirate Week and kind find some creative waves to celebrate!
