Cute as a Button

Happy Greeting Card Season! Time to grab the address book and stamps and spread the well wishes to our loved ones. Of course there’s the classic route of vacation photos or professional portraits, but those can get a bit pricey. Why not make a card that’s cute, creative, personalized, and easy on the wallet?

To make these adorable ornament cards, you’ll need some cardstock and paper, a black marker, an assortment of colorful buttons, glue, and some optional rhinestones.

On a piece of paper (cut it in half and fit two to a page), draw several ornament strings and bows with your black marker (You can also purchase a string and bow stamp, but a marker works just as well!). Then glue buttons below the strings as ornaments. If you feel like adding a little sparkle, you can glue rhinestones on top of a few of the buttons. Then just add a little message and glue the paper to a folded sheet of cardstock.

Aren’t these precious? For another fabulous homemade card idea, check out our post over at Scribbleshop. You can also frame them for simple holiday decorations. Christmas cards don’t have to be fancy or expensive to make a splash… just heartfelt and creative!

Make a Decorative Organizer

Hi Scribblers,

Today I was trying to find a fun way to store my supplies, and instead I got decorative with them!

Make your own decorative organizer!

For this craft, you will need:
-Ribbon
-Construction Paper
-Glitter Glue
-Pipe Cleaners
-Rhinestones
-Scissors
-Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks
-Tacky Glue
-Foam
-Popsicle Sticks
-Blue Paint
-Soda Can*

To start, trim a piece of Construction Paper to the height of a popsicle stick and around the circumference of a soda can. (Honesty Flag: As you can see in the image, I shot this with a glass cup. I later realized the cup was not quite round. I then ended up using a jar of paint. I suggest using a soda can as you will likely have this around the house. Really, any object with a cylinder shape should work) Glue the construction paper around the circumference of the soda can.

Glue the popsicle sticks to the paper using tacky glue.

If the popsicle sticks don’t meet when you get all the way around, simply glue another stick over the two non-connecting pieces (this can be the back of the organizer).

Paint the sticks with acrylic paint. Let dry

Once dry, gently slide the your organizer shape off of the soda can.

Cut a circle out of foam that is slightly larger than the circumference of your organizer. and hot glue this to the bottom of the organizer.

Decorate your organizer using popsicle sticks, glitter glue, rhinestones, ribbon and what ever else you can think of!

Happy Crafting!
